Cafe Bernardo

Breakfast is an overlooked meal at many restaurants, but Café Bernardo has it figured out. I met up with some friends at Café Bernardo in Davis for a laid-back Saturday breakfast.
The first order of business is to place your order before you sit down. You get an oversized playing card that you set on your table; when your plate is up the wait staff will know where you’re seated based on the card. I was the Jack of Hearts.
I chose the eggs Bernardo, their take on the classic eggs Benedict. It comes with a good sized portion of herb potatoes and with the eggs on toasted rosemary bread topped with house-made hollandaise. The sauce had a good balance of smooth butter and tart lemon. The cappuccino was perfect, with just the right amount of foam.
My friends went with white mochas for their morning caffeine fix, which came in what look like soup bowls—actually oversized handless cups resembling bowls. They also went with the Bernardo burrito and the two eggs breakfast. Both entrees also came with the herb potatoes, a favorite of my friends.
We continued to sit and chat on the outside patio well after we finished our breakfasts. My cappuccino and eggs Bernardo only came to $9.97. In fact each of our breakfasts and coffee were less than $10, not much for a good breakfast and an inviting atmosphere that encourages guest to linger.
If you’re not in the Davis area, check out the other two Sacramento locations. All of the restaurants have outdoor patios and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the menus do vary slightly
