World-renowned Rio Vista photographer Asa Mathat and his wife Kimberly have published work in places such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Washington Post, and celebrities such as Bill Gates, the Dalai Lama and Warren Buffet are listed among their clientele. The duo has recently embarked on a new venture that they call Above the Bed. The aim is to create a finished piece of intimate fine art to hang “above the bed.”

“It’s a new approach to an age-old concept,” Mathat explains. “The idea of traveling across the body landscape and capturing the light and shadow helped us develop the concept: meaningful photographs of individuals or couples of any age, shape or size. Everyone can find a feature about themselves that they find beauty in. Sometimes it’s the nape of their neck, their naval, shoulder or maybe their feet. Leaving something to the imagination is the goal, so nudity is an option, not a necessity. It’s like a private storytelling narrative—a visual playground. The finished image can be an abstract or not, anonymous or obvious; it’s up to the client and their level of comfort.”
