Young and financially savvy

The online world isn’t just for spending. Some area financial institutions offer online programs that use brightly animated games, puzzles and quizzes to teach kids and young adults all about money: everything from how banks work, to the importance of budgeting and saving, to credit card management and smart investing. Travis Credit Union’s three options are complemented by virtual hangouts where young customers can build their financial savvy—a clubhouse for the T-Bird Club (ages zero to 12), a mall for the Rising Stars Club (ages 13-17) and a university for the Young Adult Account (ages 18-21). Wells Fargo’s Hands on Banking curriculum is designed for ages 10 to 21; characters, such as Zing the alien, lead fourth- and fifth-graders through a “banking adventure,” while Studio Z engages older teens and young adults in more advanced programs about work, higher education or living on their own.
