Green luxury at the Golden Gate
The Bay Area is a little greener with the arrival of Cavallo Point - the Lodge at the Golden Gate. The new environmentally sustainable lodge lies on the edge of Sausalito at Fort Baker, amid the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and is situated at the north end of the famous bridge.
In addition to spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco skyline, Cavallo Point Lodge offers the ultimate experience. From Murray Circle, helmed by Michelin two-star executive chef Joseph Humphrey, to the Culinary Arts and Adventure programs, and the Healing Arts Center & Spa to scenic coastline hiking trails, there is something to satisfy any interest. You don’t need to be a hotel guest to partake of these amenities, but if you are, the rewards run deep. The lodge offers 68 rooms and suites in restored National Historic Landmark buildings, and another 74 in new, sustainably designed buildings.
With measures that include replacing invasive plant life with native species, generating nearly all energy used via solar panels and implementing a state-of-the-art water reclamation system that allows the lodge to use 65 percent less water than a traditional hotel, Cavallo Point strives to be an environmental steward in every aspect. U.S. Green Building Council LEED certification is pending.
