Joe's Buffet
Jeannie Howard
With a complete lack of décor and simple, if ample seating, one thing is for certain: When you go to Joe’s Buffet you are there for nothing more than the food and friendly service. A friend and I went to Joe’s for lunch after hearing rave reviews about the food. We both had the lunch combo for $7.75—a sandwich, one of Joe’s many side orders and a drink. My friend had the cold salami with a side of onion rings. I had the hot roast beef with cheddar. Passing on the mayo, I decided to make my sandwich a French Dip—a hot sandwich piled high with roast beef and a savory jus for dipping is the best. I chose the rich and creamy macaroni and cheese for my side. Other sides include comfort food favorites such as green beans, French fries or potato salad. Both of our lunch combos and a slice of cake, which I couldn’t resist ordering to go, came to about $17.50.
What can I say? Whether you eat there or get your order to go, Joe’s Buffet is the place to go for great food that won’t empty your wallet—maybe that’s why Joe’s is a Fairfield favorite. Since it is so popular, make sure you have a few extra minutes if you’re going during the lunch rush. Also make sure you have cash since they don’t accept credit cards, although there is an ATM machine in case you forget.
Joe’s Buffet, 834 Texas St., Fairfield (707) 425-2317. Open MondayT-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
